Following the powerful beats and grooving percussions of their latest single ‘Sunniva‘, Munich duo KIDSØ (Moritz Grassinger and Martin Schneider) serves up flavoursome continental remix of ‘Who I Once Knew’ by British singer-songwriter Chris de Sarandy (out 4 August via Embassy One), a delicate and understated cut of microhouse akin to Robag Wruhme and Isolée.
Channelling the heavy emotional baggage of the nostalgia-laden original while distilling de Sarandy’s expressive electro-acoustic pop into muffled kicks and stifled piano leads, Grassinger and Schneider have expressed in musical terms the male tendency to shut down emotions – all beautifully in line with the song’s subtext: ‘I’m standing on fire, but I can’t move / When the match caught the flame, the light shined on you / I know we both need change, yeah we do / Why’d you have to change to someone new?’
“We are excited that ‘Who I Once Knew (KIDSØ Remix)‘ is finally being released,” KIDSØ wrote. “It was such a fun experience working on it. Chris’s powerful and expressive voice fits perfectly with our musical style. Collaborating with such talented musicians is always a pleasure for us.”
